Not Theoretical Knowledge – We've Been Importing for Our Own Products for Years

Autoskope is not a pure procurement service provider - we are manufacturers ourselves. For our GPS tracker product line, we have been sourcing electronic components, plastic housings, Fakra connectors, cables and packaging materials from China for years.

This experience from our own production makes the crucial difference: we don't just know the theory of China sourcing, we have made the mistakes ourselves, gone through the learning curve and now know exactly what matters - from the first sample order to ongoing series delivery.

In addition, we have established international collaborations through an EU-funded research project and systematically expanded our network. We now make this expertise available to other companies.

What We Source Ourselves

  • Fakra connectors and RF cables for GPS antennas
  • Custom plastic housings (injection molding)
  • SMD components and electronic parts
  • Pre-assembled cable harnesses and connectors
  • Branded packaging and inserts
  • Charging cables, power supplies and mounting accessories

How We Find the Right Supplier – Not Just the Cheapest

Finding the right supplier in China is more than an Alibaba search. Many vendors on online platforms are trading companies, not manufacturers. We reliably distinguish between real factories and intermediaries and identify suppliers that match your requirements - in terms of capacity, quality level, minimum order quantities and industry experience.

Every potential supplier goes through our qualification process: verification of business licenses, analysis of production capacities, reference checks with existing customers, and where possible an on-site factory inspection. Only when a supplier passes this review do we recommend them for sample orders.

Our Qualification Process

  1. 1Create requirements profile
  2. 2Supplier research (3-5 candidates)
  3. 3Business license and certificate verification
  4. 4Capacity and quality analysis
  5. 5Reference check with existing customers
  6. 6Sample order and evaluation
  7. 7Recommendation with risk assessment

Better Prices, Fair Contracts – We Negotiate on Equal Footing

Price negotiations in China follow different rules than in Europe. The first quoted price is rarely the final one, and negotiation covers far more than just the unit price: minimum order quantities (MOQ), tooling costs, payment terms, lead times, packaging requirements and quality standards are all negotiation points that significantly impact your total costs.

We negotiate on equal footing - in English and Mandarin when needed. We ensure fair conditions for both sides, because a long-term supplier relationship is more valuable than a short-term price advantage. Typical contract topics we clarify for you: Incoterms (FOB, CIF, DDP), payment terms (T/T, L/C), warranty, IP protection and exclusivity agreements.

MOQ Optimization

We negotiate realistic minimum order quantities that match your needs - even for smaller quantities.

Incoterms & Payments

FOB, CIF or DDP? T/T or L/C? We advise you on the best conditions for your specific case.

IP Protection

NDA, tooling ownership clauses and exclusivity agreements to protect your designs and innovations.

Double-Checked: Before Shipping in China and Upon Arrival in Germany

Quality control is not an optional add-on service - it is the most important step in any procurement from China. Our QC process is multi-layered and begins long before the goods are shipped.

Before shipping, we or our partners on site conduct a pre-shipment inspection according to AQL standard (Acceptable Quality Level). Samples are drawn and checked against your specifications: dimensional accuracy, surface quality, function, packaging and labeling. Only when the inspection is passed do we release the shipment.

Upon receipt of goods in Germany, we carry out an additional incoming inspection. Especially for safety-relevant or function-critical parts, this double check is indispensable. All results are documented and feed into our supplier evaluation.

No Misunderstandings: We Speak Your Suppliers' Language

The most common cause of failed China projects is not technical problems, but communication issues. Language barriers, cultural differences in business understanding and the 6-7 hour time difference create friction points that are difficult to manage without intercultural experience.

In Chinese business culture, a "yes" does not always mean agreement - it can also mean "I understand" or "I will try." Criticism is rarely expressed directly, and problems are communicated late. We know these dynamics from years of collaboration and ensure that your requirements are clearly understood and actually implemented.

Timezone Management

We communicate during Chinese business hours and keep you updated during your working hours.

Technical Translation

Technical specifications, drawings and requirements are communicated precisely and unambiguously.

Cultural Understanding

We understand Chinese business culture and navigate Guanxi, Mianzi and indirect communication.

Logistics & Customs

Shipping from China to Germany offers various options with different cost-time ratios: sea freight (affordable, 4-6 weeks), rail freight (middle ground, 2-3 weeks) or air freight (fast but expensive). We advise you on the optimal shipping method based on weight, volume, urgency and budget.

For customs clearance, we support you with the correct customs tariff number (HS code), preparation of necessary import documentation (commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin) and calculation of customs duties and import VAT. This way you avoid surprises during import and can reliably calculate your total costs.

What Goes Wrong When You Import Without a Sourcing Partner

Many companies underestimate the complexity of international procurement. The following risks we regularly see with clients who previously imported from China on their own.

Quality Issues with Unvetted Suppliers

Without prior auditing and sample testing, you risk defective components that are only noticed during final assembly. The costs of rework, scrap and production downtime quickly exceed the supposed savings from direct ordering.

Communication Problems and Misunderstandings

Language barriers and cultural differences frequently lead to incorrect specifications, faulty tooling or unexpected product changes. What seemed clearly discussed on WeChat turns out to be a misinterpretation upon delivery.

Hidden Costs: Customs, Rework, Complaints

The low unit price from China is only part of the total cost. Customs duties, import VAT, anti-dumping duties, freight costs, rework and the time spent on complaints are often underestimated. Without experience, 15-25% of real procurement costs are missing from the calculation.

Delivery Delays and Production Downtime

Chinese holidays (especially Chinese New Year with 2-4 weeks of shutdown), port congestion, container shortages or quality defects requiring reproduction: without forward planning and local contacts, your production lines stand still.

With an experienced sourcing partner, you avoid these risks from the start. Our experience from hundreds of our own orders from China means: we know the pitfalls and protect you from them.

Frequently Asked Questions about China Sourcing

Direct imports from China carry significant risks: unvetted suppliers, communication problems, hidden costs and quality defects. We have built our own supplier networks over years and use them for our GPS tracker production. You benefit from our existing, vetted relationships, confident communication in Mandarin and English, and our experience with customs, logistics and quality control. This saves you not just money, but above all time and stress.

Our focus is on three areas: first, electronic components (SMD parts, ICs, connectors such as Fakra connectors, printed circuit boards); second, injection-molded parts (custom plastic parts and housings); and third, cable harnesses (assembled cables and custom cable assemblies). Thanks to our own product development and GPS tracker production, we have particularly deep sourcing experience in precisely these three areas. Beyond that, we can also source further industrial components from China and other Asian markets on request.

Step 1: You describe your requirements with technical drawings, datasheets or sample parts. Step 2: We research at least 3-5 suitable suppliers and obtain comparable quotes. Step 3: We present you with the best options along with our assessment of quality, reliability and total costs. Step 4: After your decision, we commission samples, inspect them and only release series production after approval. Step 5: Pre-shipment inspection and shipping organization.

Quality assurance is multi-layered: Before the first order, we conduct a supplier audit (factory visit, reference check, certificates). Before series production, samples are inspected and approved. Before shipping, a pre-shipment inspection takes place (AQL sampling inspection). Upon goods receipt in Germany, we conduct an incoming inspection. Additionally, we document all quality data and thus build a supplier history.

Our billing model is transparent and project-dependent. For the initial supplier search and qualification, we charge a flat fee. For ongoing procurement, we work either with a percentage handling fee on the goods value or a fixed per-unit surcharge. In both cases, you see the full costs upfront. Often our service is cost-neutral or even cheaper because we achieve lower purchase prices through better negotiating positions and bundling.

Our focus and strongest network is in China, particularly in the industrial regions of Shenzhen/Guangdong (electronics), Ningbo/Zhejiang (mechanical, plastics) and Shanghai (logistics hub). Furthermore, we have built international contacts through an EU-funded research project. Depending on the product category, we also evaluate suppliers in Taiwan, Vietnam or India if this makes more sense for your project.
