SMD/THT Assembly Down to Fine-Pitch and BGA – via Our Premium Partner

SMD assembly (Surface Mount Device) is the standard process for modern electronics. Assembly of your boards is handled by our long-standing premium partner in China – precise and reliable, from resistors and capacitors in package sizes down to 0402, through fine-pitch ICs, to complex BGA packages. The specifications come from Rostock: we define the assembly data, layout and process parameters.

The partner's reflow soldering process uses controlled temperature profiles tailored to the requirements of your assembly. The result: consistent solder joints, minimal thermal stress on components and reproducible quality – batch after batch. Mixed assembly with through-hole THT components (selective or wave soldering) is implemented this way too.

For our own GPS tracker boards, we engineered the SMD assembly of NB-IoT and LTE modules, GNSS receivers and LoRaWAN radio chips. This experience with RF components and their sensitive requirements for soldering temperature and placement feeds into your layout, your assembly specifications and the coordination with the partner.

Embedded Firmware – Bringing Hardware to Life

An assembly is only as good as its firmware. In Rostock we develop the embedded firmware for your electronics – from bare-metal drivers to the complete device application. Circuit, layout and firmware are created hand in hand at our site so that hardware and software work together optimally.

Our scope includes: drivers for peripherals and sensors (I²C, SPI, UART, 1-Wire, ADC), integration of radio stacks for NB-IoT, LTE Cat M1, GNSS and LoRaWAN, robust data buffering and protocol connectivity, as well as consistent low-power design for long battery runtimes. On request we implement over-the-air updates (OTA) and secure bootloaders.

Our GPS tracker boards show what is possible: the firmware controls five radio technologies on one PCB, manages up to eight temperature sensors and several inputs/outputs and keeps standby consumption at just 5 mA. We bring this embedded experience to your project – as a complete package of hardware development and firmware, or as pure firmware development for your existing assembly.

Circuit Development & PCB Layout

Good electronics starts with circuit design – and this is exactly our core competence in Rostock. We develop new circuits or optimize existing designs. Our focus is on practical, production-ready solutions – not theory. This also includes component selection: matched to function, availability and budget, on request including procurement of PCBs and components by us or our partner.

In PCB layout, we consider manufacturing requirements from the start (Design for Manufacturing, DFM). This means: optimal pad geometries for reliable solder joints, sufficient clearances for machine placement at the partner, well-designed copper areas for thermal management and clean signal routing for EMC compliance. This ensures the assembly data handed to the partner is ready for production.

Our competence shows in our own products: the GPS tracker PCB combines NB-IoT, LTE Cat M1, GPS/GLONASS/Galileo and LoRaWAN on a compact assembly – circuit, layout and firmware developed in Rostock. This requires careful RF planning, impedance control and separation of sensitive analog from digital circuit sections – challenges we master daily.

Test Concept from Rostock – Sign-off and Release by Us

An assembly is only finished once it has been tested. We develop the test concept for it in Rostock – tailored to your product's requirements. The tests are carried out at the premium partner according to our test specifications; the results are evaluated and released by us.

The tests include: Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) for detecting solder defects, component misalignment and missing parts. Electrical functional tests according to our test specifications – from simple continuity checks to complex parametric measurements. In-Circuit Testing (ICT) for verifying individual components on the assembled board. All results are documented and can be supplied as a test report.

For our own GPS trackers, we go further: every device undergoes a complete functional test where all radio modules (NB-IoT, LTE, GPS, LoRaWAN) are verified for transmit and receive performance. We developed these test programs ourselves. We bring this experience with complex test procedures to your project – from defining custom test programs to the final sign-off and release of the series.

Through our long-standing premium partner in China, we deliver functional samples in the shortest time – typically within one to two weeks, depending on complexity and component availability.
