Get to Series Production Faster: Product Development with In-House 3D Printing in Rostock

We develop your product from the first sketch to series production. With in-house 3D printing, electronics expertise, and the experience from developing our own GPS tracking products.

CAD design, rapid prototyping, design for manufacturing, and series production support - all from a single source in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

In brief

How does product development at Autoskope work?

Autoskope guides your product from the first sketch to series production – in five clear steps: ideation and requirements, CAD design and 3D modelling, rapid prototyping (FDM, SLA, SLS), design-for-manufacturing optimisation and series support. Because we run 3D printing, electronics and cable assembly in-house in Rostock, coordination is shorter and iterations take days instead of weeks. We deliver ready-to-use design data in all common formats (STEP, IGES, STL) and consider tolerances, IP ratings and target costs from the start. We walked this entire path for our own GPS trackers – from housing to circuit board. That hands-on experience is now available to your project.

Proven on Our Own Products

From Our Own GPS Tracker to Product Development for You

Autoskope GmbH doesn't just have theoretical knowledge about product development - we've gone through the entire process ourselves. Our GPS trackers Autoskope V3 and Motoskope V3 are fully self-developed, third-generation hardware products (V3) developed in Rostock that are now in professional use with customers.

The enclosure is SLS-printed from Nylon 12 (PA12) and achieves IP66 protection - waterproof and dustproof. Titanium screws ensure maximum corrosion resistance. The electronics include NB-IoT and LTE Cat M1 for data transmission, GPS and Galileo for positioning, and LoRaWAN for energy-efficient communication.

This experience - every challenge, every iteration, every optimization - flows directly into product development for our clients. When we say we know the difficulties, we mean it literally.

Autoskope V3 & Motoskope V3 - Technical Highlights

  • SLS-printed Nylon 12 enclosure with IP66 protection
  • Titanium screws for corrosion resistance
  • NB-IoT & LTE Cat M1 connectivity
  • GPS + Galileo positioning
  • LoRaWAN for energy-efficient communication
  • In-house electronics and firmware development

How We Shorten Your Time-to-Market

From 3D modeling to series production support, we offer all the services you need for successful product development.

CAD Design & 3D Modeling

Our CAD team creates precise 3D models for your product - from simple enclosures to complex assemblies. We deliver finished construction data in all common formats: STEP for data exchange with manufacturers, IGES for further processing in other CAD systems, and STL for direct 3D printing. Our services include mechanical design, enclosure development considering IP protection classes, tolerance analyses, and creating standards-compliant technical drawings. We are particularly strong in developing compact electronics enclosures, as proven by our own GPS trackers.

  • STEP, IGES, STL export
  • Enclosure design (IP protection)
  • Technical drawings per DIN
  • Parametric design
  • Assemblies & exploded views

Rapid Prototyping in Rostock

With our in-house 3D printing capabilities, we manufacture your prototypes right here in Rostock. Whether FDM for quick concept models, SLA for highly detailed surfaces, or SLS for durable functional parts made of nylon - we select the optimal process for your use case. Our location in Rostock means short distances: prototypes can often be manufactured within 24 to 48 hours and picked up directly. This significantly accelerates iterative design cycles, drastically reducing your time-to-market.

Capabilities

  • FDM, SLA, and SLS available
  • Prototypes in 24-48 hours
  • Local pickup in Rostock
  • Iterative design cycles
  • Functional stress testing

Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

A prototype that works is only half the battle. To ensure your product can also be economically manufactured in series, we specifically optimize the design for the chosen manufacturing processes. This includes selecting the right materials considering cost, availability, and mechanical requirements, adapting wall thicknesses and geometries for injection molding or milling processes, and minimizing part count. We identify cost drivers early and eliminate expensive rework through forward-thinking design.

Capabilities

  • Material selection & cost optimization
  • Injection-molding-ready design
  • Part count reduction
  • Manufacturing-appropriate tolerances
  • Unit cost calculation

Support Through Series Production

We don't leave you alone after the prototype. Autoskope accompanies you through the entire path to series production: from pilot runs through quality inspections to handover to the series manufacturer. We organize small batches with our own 3D printing capacities or through our network of manufacturing partners in Germany and internationally. We handle quality control, create inspection reports, and remain available as your technical contact even after handover.

Capabilities

  • Pilot runs & small batches
  • Quality control & inspection reports
  • Network of manufacturing partners
  • Technical support after handover
  • International sourcing expertise

Frequently Asked Questions About Product Development

We work with professional parametric CAD systems and can process and deliver files in all common formats: STEP (.stp) for manufacturer-independent data exchange, IGES (.igs) for further processing, STL (.stl) for 3D printing, and native formats of common CAD systems. We create technical drawings as PDF according to DIN standards.

The duration depends heavily on complexity. Simple enclosure parts can go from sketch to functional 3D-printed prototype within one week. More complex products with electronics and multiple components typically need 4 to 12 weeks for the first functional prototype. In a free initial consultation, we give you a realistic estimate for your specific project.

Yes, Autoskope offers complete electronics development from a single source. We developed all electronics for our own GPS trackers Autoskope V3 and Motoskope V3 - fully self-developed, third-generation products (V3) - including NB-IoT, LTE Cat M1, GPS/Galileo receivers, and LoRaWAN. We bring this experience to your project: circuit development, PCB layout, prototype manufacturing, and small batch production.

Costs vary depending on scope and complexity. A simple enclosure design with prototype starts in the low four-figure range. Complete product developments with electronics, software, and enclosure typically range in the five-figure area. After a free initial consultation, we provide a transparent offer with clearly defined milestones and costs.

We operate three professional 3D printing processes: FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) for fast and cost-effective concept models in PLA, PETG, or ASA. SLA (Stereolithography) for highly detailed surfaces and precision parts. SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) for durable functional parts made of Nylon 12 (PA12) - the same process we use to manufacture our GPS tracker enclosures. The choice of process depends on your requirements for accuracy, durability, and surface finish.

Yes, we support you through series production and beyond. Small batches up to approx. 500 units can often be economically covered with SLS 3D printing. For larger quantities, we optimize your design for injection molding or other conventional processes and connect you with vetted manufacturing partners in Germany or internationally. Through our own sourcing experience in China, we can also assist with international supplier searches.
